Carley + Matthew

Matthew wanted snow. He made that very clear during our pre-shoot email sessions. He wanted two things, he wanted snow and he wanted Carley to say yes!

Matthew emailed me a few weeks back about photographing his surprise proposal to his girlfriend, Carley. Of course, the second I read his email I got super excited and couldn’t wait to plan the proposal with him! I just adore shooting surprise proposals and this one was definitely one for the books! In one of Matthew’s earlier emails to me, he mentioned that Carley would have absolutely no idea of his proposal plans and that he was super excited for their “session”… according to Carley, we were just going to be taking some nice winter photos to have for the holidays. (Sneaky sneaky!) Little did she know what was about to happen.

As we started shooting, I felt like a little kid who knew the best secret in the whole world; I could barely keep myself from smiling from ear to ear the entire session! But Matthew and I played it cool. As we hiked through the most pillowy, heavy snowfall of the season so far, as the snow continued to fall the anticipation grew so strong and I just couldn’t wait any longer!! As I made eye contact with Matthew and told him that I thought our shoot was a wrap, that was his cue to take the lead as I snapped my shutter for all it was worth. Carley was so shocked when Matthew got down on one knee that she asked him “what are you doing?!” and he continued on to her disbelief. These two had known each other for three years before they started dating so Carley knew that Matthew was not the best secret-keeper, and therefore, always thought she would find out through the grapevine when he was going to propose to her. After Carly said yes and they both hugged each other with teary eyes and full hearts, she said “I was supposed to KNOW!! I didn’t know!!” She had no idea today would be the start of their forever. All three of us were all laughs and smiles on the way back to the cars… I couldn’t have asked for a more heartfelt, heartwarming experience with these two.

December 11th, 2016 turned out to be everything Matthew wanted.

Carley + Matthew, you two are so blessed to have each other, and I just adore the genuine, beautiful love you have for one another. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your love story! I can’t wait to continue the journey!!!
